Roseville's Jodie Robinson earns first sprint win at Placerville Speedway

After finishing among the top five many time, 19-year-old Jodie Robinson of Roseville finally had everything come together on Saturday to record her first career Placerville Speedway Winged Sprint Car victory. By way of her triumph, Robinson joins her father, David, and brother, Ryan, on the all-time Placerville Speedway Winged 360 Sprint Car win list. Her father was a three-time Placerville track champion with 23 career wins at the track, while her brother claimed his initial victory last season. Saturday night marked the first time a father, son and daughter have ever graced the track's historical list of winners. Climbing from her car and immediately embracing her father, Robinson stepped into victory lane and explained how the long-awaited win was all about her confidence."I've been racing here a couple years now and have been so close and just never was able to pull it off. My dad and my team have given me a really good car and I just couldn't get here," said Robinson, a Foresthill native who calls Roseville home where the family's business, Roseville Precision, is also based. "Last week, I had to sit down with myself and kind of go back to the drawing board on a mental state. I knew we could win. I just knew that I needed to be in tip-top shape with my energy and my confidence in myself and start to believe in myself. We did a lot of work on me this week and it paid off. Sometimes, you just have to do that."The 25-lap Winged Sprint Car feature began with eight-time track champion Andy Forsberg of Auburn charging into the lead ahead of Dylan Bloomfield and Robinson. Robinson immediately found the high side to her liking and powered by both Bloomfield and Forsberg to snatch the lead on lap three. Once lapped traffic came into play, Forsberg closed in to her but caught the outer berm of the track extremely hard at one point, allowing Bloomfield the chance to sneak by. With heavy duty lapped for the final laps, Robinson had to pick her spots wisely to fend off the 16-year-old racer from Oakley. Bloomfield was all over her during the waning laps but Robinson hung tough to earn the emotional win."I couldn't believe it when I saw the white flag (last lap) and I was in all of that traffic," said Robinson. "I knew all I had to do was stay out of trouble one more time and I managed to do that." Sharing victory lane with Robinson on Saturday were Fair Oaks' Jake Morgan with the Joe Hunt Magnetos Wingless Tour, Diamond Springs' Kevin Jinkerson with the Pure Stocks and Mike Miller with the Mini Trucks. The wingless division main event opened with a battle up front between Placerville's Shane Hopkins, Morgan and San Jose's Shawn Jones. At one point, Jones looked like he would be the man to beat, until showing Morgan the high-side of the speedway. He charged around both Jones and Hopkins to scoop up the lead, before carving his way through traffic to claim his ninth career Wingless Sprint Car victory at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds venue. Hopkins, Jones, point leader Josh Young and Shawn Arriaga rounded out the top-five.
