Broadstone has great weekend in pool

What a weekend it was for the Broadstone Barracudas. The Barracudas won the Suburban Swim League's women's team championship by 271 points, placed third on the boys' side by 116 points and won the combined team title by 254. The Barracudas also set nine records, including six team records and three league records and had six high-point scorers and four runners-up. To cap it off, the team had 23 event winners. The Barracudas had the overall high-point scorers of the meet in Camryn Tice and Levi Perez. Tice, competing in the 17-18 girls' division, won the individual medley, backstroke, and butterfly and had a top-three finish in the breaststroke. She set SSL records in the 100 individual medley (1:01.16) and 100 back (1:00.79) and a team record of 54:04 in the 100 free. Perez, competing in the 11-12 boys' division, won the individual medley, back, breast and butterfly and had a top-three finish in the freestyle. Alli Cooper and Evelyn Strange placed first and second in the 7/8 girls' high-point scorer race. Cooper won the butterfly and breaststroke and had a top-three finish in the freestyle, while Strange had top-three finishes in the butterfly, breast stroke and freestyle. Aiden Siy was the high-point scorer for the 11-12 boys. Siy won the 50 free with a team-record time of 22.26 and had a top-three finish in the 100 individual medley (55.59), which was a team record, and the breast stroke. Eli Ochoa was second in points, as he won the freestyle, and had top-three finishes in the individual medley and butterfly. Lulu Mancinelli was the high-point scorer in the 13-14 girls' age group, winning the freestyle, backstroke and breast stroke along with a top-three finish in the individual medley. Annie Galovan was second in points, as she won the backstroke and had top-three finishes in the individual medley, freestyle, and breaststroke. Sydney Salas was the high-point scorer in the 15-16 age group, winning the individual medley, freestyle and backstroke with a top-three finish in the butterfly. Olivia Mancinelli was second in points with a win in the freestyle and top-three finishes in individual medley and backstroke. Sarah Galovan placed third in points with a top-three finish in freestyle. Aaron Siy won the individual medley and had a top-three finish in the freestyle to also finish third in scoring. Brielle Garcia was the second high scorer in the 9-10 age group, as she won the backstroke and had top-three finishes in the individual medley, freestyle and butterfly. Joshua Maestre had a top-three finish in the backstroke and was the third high-point scorer in the 17-18 age group. Maestre also placed fourth in the individual medley. Xander Webster set team records with top-three finishes in the 100 breast (1:01.82) and 100 free (49.94). Webster also finished fourth in the individual medley. Also winning events for the Barracudas were Anthony Camarillo (17-18, free) and Taryn Graham (11-12, breast). Camarillo also had a top-three finish in the butterfly, while Graham did the same in the freestyle. Other top-three finishers were Myklin Cooper (15-16, free), Avery Dean (15-16, free), Miles Schulze (11-12, free, backstroke), Penny Neitling (9-10 free, butterfly), Violet Webster (11-12 free, backstroke, butterfly, fourth in the IM), Audrey Little (13-14 free, butterfly), Jake Farfan (13-14 free), Morgan Humphrey (15-16, free), Mia Hart (15-16, breast) and Takuro Suzuki (17-18, breast). Kate Whaley also placed fourth in the individual medley. The girls' 15-18 200 free relay of Tice, Salas, Olivia Mancinelli and Sarah Galovan also set a league record in winning the relay in 1:40.24. "This season we taught our swimmers that teamwork is the fuel that allows common people to produce uncommon results," Broadstone coach Wendy Webster said. "Our results this past weekend showed that commitment to excellence in ourselves and our teammates produces champions. The swimmers who placed at the top worked hard because they had teammates behind them pushing them to be better. "Camryn Tice has been a Cuda Lifer--she started on the team as a 6&U and has worked hard with us every season since. It has not been without trial as it has been difficult to train over the past couple years, but Camryn came out when we could swim. She worked hard and showed her commitment to the sport even when conditions were not ideal as a swimmer and as a coach. Now she is seeing a lot of success. We are so proud of her."
