Cool off from the summer heat with pools and splash pads near you

It's that time of year when temperatures in south Placer are sometimes more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Are you looking for ways for you and your families to cool off? South Placer is home to a variety of public swimming locations and kid-friendly "splash pads" where you can enjoy being outside while beating the heat. Pools Lincoln is home to McBean Pool at McBean Park, 65 McBean Park Drive. Swimming is open to the public Monday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays through Sept. 3. McBean Pool also hosts "Family Swim Nights" from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays through Aug. 29. In Roseville, residents have three public swimming pools to choose from, as well as two active waterparks. Johnson Swimming Pool, the Roseville Aquatics Complex, and the Mike Shellito Indoor Swimming Pool are open to the public all summer long. Johnson Swimming Pool at 100 D St. in Roseville is open for recreational swim every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. until Aug. 7. General admission is $2 for everyone 2 and over. Children younger than 2 years old receive free admission. Wednesday and Friday nights are "Family Nights" from 7:15 to 8:45 p.m., where general admission for all ages is free. The Roseville Aquatics Complex offers public swimming from 1 to 4 p.m. every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday until Aug. 5, as well as from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturdays. In addition, the Roseville Aquatics Complex will begin offering public swimming to the public from 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays, starting Aug. 7. The Roseville Aquatics Complex is at 3051 Woodcreek Oaks Blvd. in Roseville. General admission is $6 for anyone over the age of 2. The Mike Shellito Indoor Pool is another great alternative to avoid getting a sunburn, yet still ensuring the aquatic fun of a pool. The Mike Shellito Pool is open for recreational swim from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. every Wednesday and Friday through Aug. .5. The Mike Shellito Pool is also open on the weekends from 1 to 4 p.m.. Like the Roseville Aquatics Complex, general admission for the Mike Shellito Pool is $6 for anyone over the age of 2. Parents can bring their children ages 6 and under for free during the week for a private swim known as Little Splashers at the Mike Shellito Pool. Little Splashers is strictly for families and their children ages 6 and under from 9:30 to 11:15 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Sundays. Parents must accompany their children in the pool. Splash pads "Splash pads" or a spray pool are perfect for younger children who have yet to learn how to swim. Splash pads are a recreation area, often in a public park with little or no standing water. Splash pads eliminate the need for a lifeguard and decrease the risk of drowning for children. Splash pads have become a popular trend for local parks and a favorite of younger children. In Lincoln, Foskett Regional Park at 1911 Finney Way has a splash pad that operates during the summer for kids to enjoy. Rocklin has three parks with active splash pads at Whitney Community Park, Kathy Lund Community Park and Johnson Springview Park. All three Rocklin splash pads operate from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day through mid-October. Roseville's Vernon Town Street Square and Harry Crabb Park also offer splash pads for families. In addition, many residents enjoy visiting the Fountains in Roseville, and watching the water shoot up from the fountains. Loomis also has a splash pad open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Sundays at Blue Anchor Park near the Train Depot at 5775 Horseshoe Bar Road.
