Loomis RV park actions postponed

A public hearing on the controversial Brace Road RV park proposal was postponed this week by the Loomis Town Planning Department. Nearby residents rallied in spring against a proposed 34-space RV campground on Brace Road at Interstate 80. The site is located on the north side of Brace Road, east of I-80 and Tiny Tots Therapy, and west of Little Orchard Preschool. During the regular monthly Loomis Planning Commission meeting on Tuesday, Loomis Planning director Mary Beth Van Voorhis said the matter was postponed to the fall. "The reason we had to kind of put a halt on it is a need for an executed applicant reimbursement agreement and an issue that arose last Wednesday, the payment of development impact fees," Van Voorhis said. "So we have to get that bug worked out one way or another. I don't know if that will be September or October. It all depends on how quickly we can resolve these issues." In other news, Van Voorhis said that Loomis staff deemed the Hidden Grove application complete Aug. 9. Hidden Grove is a large housing and commercial project proposed for mostly vacant acreage in northeast Loomis behind the Raley's shopping center along westbound Interstate 80. As proposed, Hidden Grove would include eight-plus acres of commercial area at the corner of Horseshoe Bar Road and Library Drive. The plan includes a 1.2-acre park, 12.5 acres of open space and about 47 acres of medium to high-density homes. The plan includes an extension of Library Drive and connections to Webb Street and King Road. The project is fueled with State Senate Bill 330, which makes it more difficult for residents to fight or amend the proposal. "It's following its natural course. They're submitting as required and that's the important part," said Van Vorhis. Planning Commission hearings on the draft Loomis General Plan are anticipated to begin in November, according to Van Vorhis. Tuesday's Planning Commission meeting was adjourned after 27 minutes. "This is one of the easiest meetings on record," said Planning Commission Chairman Greg Obranovich.
