Samuel Horne's Tavern taps into Sutter Street

Samuel Horne's Tavern opened just a few months ago on Sutter Street and is already home for many local beer connoisseurs."This is really a home bar. My first priority is to get local Folsom people in here," said Dylan Mauro, 40, co-owner of the new tavern.Before coming to Sutter Street, however, the two co-owners developed a respect and knowledge for beer individually.Mauro, originally from New York, moved to California while working for Guinness Beer, and met co-owner David Boyet, 55.In 1993, Boyet opened his English pub, Bonn Lair, in Sacramento because of his deep connection with European beer.Mauro said that the two became good friends over the years and after a short time decided to open an American-themed tavern to complement Boyet's European style pub in Sacramento.The owners decided to open the new tavern in Folsom because of its small-town feel."We were looking for a good community-based location that we could nurture the local cliental," Mauro said.Boyet said that with the knowledge and experience between the two owners, Samuel Horne's, will provide Folsom with a new and unique style tavern."We are trying to go old school, and we are confident that it will be popular in time," said Boyet.The tavern is currently in a soft-opening mode and Mauro said he wants to keep it soft, allowing popularity to grow through word of mouth."The most important thing is the comfortable feel of our place," Mauro said. "Next, the hook of the place is the beer. It's good American crafted beer."The tavern carries a wide selection of beers including 85 bottle beers and 16 draft beers."We want to let people know about beer and show them that there is a wide variety out there," Mauro said. "We are really about just getting a good beer and socializing."Additionally, the tavern offers a large "Blue Plate Special" menu of warm, comfort style foods.Mauro said the food compliments his beers while following a 1930s American theme.
