Wild Things, Dear Darling to host Afternoon of Music, Animals

Animal lovers, come one, come all! Conservation Ambassadors' Wild Things, in partnership with the musical trio Dear Darling, is hosting an Afternoon of Music and Animals fundraiser Saturday, Oct. 22. Wild Things is a nonprofit wildlife rescue center, which provides housing and care to displaced and injured animals. According to the Wild Things website, the organization provides a home for over 60 wildlife species and educates the public in hopes to provide the public with "a greater appreciation for the natural world." Wild Things Director Gabe Kerschner said this is the organization's first fundraising event and proceeds will benefit the Wild Things animals. Kerschner said the nonprofit is also working to make its 40-acre facility fire safe after wildfire threat in recent years. "We'd like to raise at least $10,000, that would be wonderful," Kerschner told the Auburn Journal Thursday morning. The event will feature live music by Dear Darling, a Sacramento-based trio of Natalie Hagwood (cello and voice), Casey Lipka (bass and voice) and Hannah Jane Kile (guitar and voice) that provides a fresh sound through their meld of folk, classical, jazz and pop. The event will also include food trucks; wildlife presentations, with an opportunity for the public to interact with the animals, and opportunities to support Wild Things. Kerschner said animals in attendance will include lemurs, monkeys, an alligator and kangaroo. The public is encouraged to bring chairs, blankets, towels, hats, sunscreen and coolers. Wild Things is asking the community to leave dog friends and alcohol at home. The event will be from 1-4 p.m. at the Auburn Garden Theater, 350 Nevada Street. Tickets are $24 for kids age 6-16, $35 for adults or $100 for a family four pack and can be purchased online on Eventbrite. Children 5 and under are free.
