Roseville Comic-Con returns @the Grounds Oct. 23

Roseville's very own Comic-Con is back from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Roebbelen Event Center @the Grounds at 700 Event Center Drive. Roseville Comic-Con had its first swap meet in 2020. Event co-organizer Daniel Houck, who has also helped with popular Sacramento Comic-Con conventions for about 35 years and SacAnime for about 15 years, said that SacAnime, the umbrella convention for the Roseville and Sacramento conventions, "were looking to branch out" with this swap meet. "It gives Placer County the chance to come out and meet like-minded people," Houck said. Since then, the Roebbelen Event Center hosted the swap meet in 2020 and 2021. They expect "a couple thousand" attendees on Oct. 23 but it "depends on the weather," Houck said, as the last show had "a considerable attendance drop in attendees because of the harsh rainstorms" last year. Roseville Comic-Con will offer autographs from special guests. Guests include Starlord artist and creator Steve Englehart, Silver Surfer artist Ron Lim, "Back to the Future" actor Don Fullilove, and voice actress Renae Jacobs, known as April O'Neil in the original "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" animated series. Houck said that the swap meet gives special guests "the chance to meet their fans" and the fans the chance to meet some of their favorite celebrities. One of the show's main attractions is the vendors, said Houck. Attendees can get their fix of collectibles from the vendors and also discover artists in Artist's Alley, a section of the vendor hall that highlights the works of artists and crafters. Houck said the event is a great opportunity for vendors to "sell their wares" and "get their names out there." Pre-registration is $10 at https://www.rosevillecomiccon.com/?page_id=265. Organizers ask that you pre-registration QR code tickets are printed before arrival. Tickets will be sold at the door for $15 and event parking will be $10. Admission for children 11 and under are free with a paid adult.
