Man dead in motorcycle crash; Galleria Blvd. closed for hours

A 21-year-old man is dead after colliding with a car Tuesday afternoon on Galleria Boulevard.Roseville Police investigators have cordoned off the southbound lanes of Galleria Boulevard between Antelope Creek Drive and Roseville Parkway to investigate. Officials say they expect to reopen the lanes sometime between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.Officer Jerry Wernli said the motorcyclist, whose identity was not released, was traveling southbound on Galleria at approximately 2:30 p.m. when he broadsided a gray Mercedes sedan making a left turn into the mall from northbound Galleria Boulevard.The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The sedan, driven by an older unidentified female, showed damage to its passenger side. The driver of the car is not believed to have sustained serious injuries. Wernli said officers had not determined what rate of speed the motorcycle was traveling, but speed is believed to be a factor based on witness interviews. The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.The speed limit on the stretch of road is 40 mph."Go slower," Wernli said. "If you're not going that fast, you're going to be able to react in time."On Tuesday, onlookers had gathered on both sides of Galleria Boulevard as investigators photographed the scene. Police officers redirected traffic and officials urged motorists to avoid the area during the busy rush hour.
