Rocklin home to thousands of small businesses

Rocklin is a small town with a big selection of small businesses to support. "If I had to guess off the top of my head, I would say we have thousands of small businesses in Rocklin," said Rocklin Mayor Bill Halldin. "We have more small businesses than large corporations." Halldin said he first moved to Rocklin near Sierra College 23 years ago when there was not much in the area besides a two-way street. Since then, Halldin has witnessed the birth and blossom of many businesses. "We're a great community for small business because we all encourage each other," Halldin said. "I ran a PR firm for 20 years so I know it's not easy. It takes a lot of courage and dedication to establish and grow a business." Halldin said there's no way for him to pick a favorite Rocklin business because he supports and enjoys so many of them. Some of his top recommendations are Perfect Cuts, Katherine's Biergarten, Bennett's Restaurant and Das Flipperhaus. "Das Flipperhaus is definitely something you don't see everywhere," Halldin said. "It's a place to play pinball while eating and drinking craft beer. It's a fun place and an unusual business to come to town." Tiffany Neilson, the Rocklin Area Chamber of Commerce VP of operations recommended some Rocklin businesses. For ages 21-plus, Mindscape Fermentations is a woman-owned brewery that offers food and probiotic beverages, and hosts various events. According to its website, sustainability and health consciousness are the foundation of its development. The brewery offers simple fermented items that "highlight all the beautiful ways that microbes alchemize foods." Mindscape Fermentation is located at 5424 Crossings Drive, Suite 10, Rocklin. Gold Country Run + Sport is a place to visit for running and other athletic needs. Locally owned, the business at 6835 Lonetree Blvd., Suite F101, carries an array of fitness products. At Gold Country Run + Sport, customers can sign up for weekly runs, marathon training and Gold Country races. Women's footwear, men's footwear, apparel and accessories are also sold there. There are also other small businesses coming soon to Rocklin, including Pizza Factory. Customers will have access to hand-tossed pizza made with 100-percent real mozzarella cheese and a signature sauce. Pizza Factory is a part of a chain of restaurants located in the western United States. The new location is located at 6671 Blue Oaks Blvd., Suite 5., Rocklin. Rumble Boxing started in New York and has opened at other locations throughout the United States. It offers fitness training and equipment with an emphasis on boxing, cardio and weight lifting.
