2 trustees recognized among Placer County school boards

The Placer County School Boards Association recognized five trustees, including two local leaders, last month. The PCSBA honored longtime Trustee Samuel Moore from the Newcastle Elementary School District. Superintendent Denny Rush said Moore has been a supporter of the district for years and helped bring the internet to the school. "He pulled wire through the classrooms and through the walls to be sure our students have access to the internet," she said. Newcastle Elementary School District Board President Sarah Gilmore shared congratulations in a video played at the PCSBA Award Ceremony on Nov. 15. "You have been such a calm and sage influence on this board, and we couldn't have done anything that we've done without you," Gilmore said. Michael Sarkisian, an eighth-grade teacher at Newcastle Elementary, described Moore as "one of those people that is always willing to step up." Also honored at the Nov. 15 event was Karen Sheets of the Colfax Elementary School District. "She is a great person of integrity," said Colfax Elementary School District Superintendent Andy Giannini. "She is a visionary leader and she really focuses our direction on improving instruction and learning outcomes for our students. She really has a heart and passion for connecting our community to serve the interest of our students." Fellow Colfax Trustee Melissa Kinsey said she has been an amazing part of their board. "In her quest as a mother to provide her own children with a quality education experience, she in turn impacted positively our entire school population," said Lisa Preston, a second-grade teacher at Colfax Elementary. Also honored was Scott Huber of the Roseville Joint Union High School District, Renee Nash of the Eureka Union School District and Kris Wyatt of the Western Placer Unified School District. The PCSBA Executive Committee helped select the honorees, including: ·&emsp;Bill Schuetz, Chair, Dry Creek Joint Elementary School District. ·&emsp;Sarah Brichler, Vice Chair, Auburn Union School District. ·&emsp;Kelli Gnile, Placer County Board of Education. ·&emsp;Lynn Oliver, Placer County Board of Education. ·&emsp;Nancy Palmer, Sierra Joint Community College District. ·&emsp;Maureen "Mo" Ward, Placer Union High School District. ·&emsp;Kris Wyatt, Western Placer Unified School District.
