Bulldogs claim Jailbreak Duals

Folsom rolled through the annual Jailbreak Duals in a dominating fashion, winning all five dual matches convincingly to win the first-place trophy. Folsom defeated Lincoln, 67-7, Monterey Trail, 69-10 and Pleasant Valley, 71-12 in pool play and then blanked Orland in the semis, 76-0. In the finals against the defending Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Champs, Vacaville's lineup featured some of their top guys and some of their second-team guys, Folsom won, 57-17. After Folsom fell behind 11-0 after the first two matches, Ryland Smith got things rolling at 145 with a pin and Folsom never looked back. Preston McAninch followed with another pin at 152 to give the Bulldogs the lead at 12-11 that they would never relinquish. Luke Supple (160) got an exciting comeback win, and Folsom began to pull away with three straight pins from Xander Webster (170), Angelo Sardo (182), and Colin Denny (195). After Enzo Mezoui (220) received a forfeit, the team score was now 39-11. Vacaville would get one more win at heavyweight, as Alec Coffin went up a weight class and was dominating the match 12-4 before he got caught and pinned late in the match to get Vacaville back on the board with a 39-17 score. Folsom closed out the match with four lightweight wrestlers coming through with wins. Folsom got a 6-4 regular decision at 106 from Mas Hatano, pins from Kai Yi-Berg (113) and Elias Rivera (120), and Chase Manski finished with a 7-0 decision to make the final score 57-17 for Folsom in the battle of the Bulldogs. "What a success it was on Saturday," Folsom coach Mike Collier said. "We showed what kind of team we have this year, as we rolled through the competition going 5-0 in dominating fashion, including a big win over section powerhouse Vacaville in the finals. Although Vacaville did not have some of their starters, they are a strong program and well-coached team, so it will always be a tough battle with them. Folsom won its five dual meets by an average score of 67-8, so it was a dominant day for our program." A school record 11 Folsom wrestlers were named to the Jailbreak Duals All Tournament Team, including Hatano (106), Yi-Berg (113), Rivera (120), Manski (126), Smith (145), McAninch (152), Supple (160), Webster (170), Sardo (182), Denny (195), and Mezoui (220). "We were happy to see that we were also able to get almost everyone in at some point if they weighed in as the backup or starter," Collier said. "Some took a forfeit, and some went out and won their match, but most got to go out there and represent Folsom in the duals. This group that contributed to our wins throughout the day included Kingston Cruzat (106), Kaz Hatano (120), Matt Loftis and Nicholas Spotswood at 132/138, Seth Brewer (138), Timmy Brand (145), Ben Bowers (152), Nathan Urbani (160), Jacob Klapper (170), Conner Stoneman (182), and AJ Cruz (126), who weighed in but was sick and did not, compete. Next week the varsity leaves for Reno on Tuesday and will wrestle in the Sierra Nevada Classic on Wednesday and Thursday and then No Guts No Glory in Natomas will be Thursday and Friday for our V2, JV and girls.
