"Ripple in still water, when there is no pebble tossed, nor wind to blow""Ripple" by the Grateful Dead This song is about the ripple that each life has on the world and how it impacts those around us, and how even when we're gone, the ripple effect can be felt and seen. The world was forever changed when Matt was needlessly and tragically taken away on January 27, 2023, leaving behind his wife and soulmate of 29 years, Sheryse (Bailey) Lewis, and their three boys, Wade (27), Mason (25), and Nolan (22). Matt is survived by his brother, Frank Lewis, and Frank's daughter Elaina (27), along with an extended Portuguese family. Matthew Roger Lewis was born in Auburn, California on March 29, 1965. He attended Lincoln Way Elementary School, E.V. Cain Junior High School, and graduated from Placer High School in 1983. Matt had a 30 plus year career with Placer County where he worked to make our roads safer for everyone to travel on. He retired in December of 2021, and had just begun to enjoy his retirement. A lifelong resident of Auburn, Matt was fun, kind, easy going and had a great sense of humor. He had an infinite number of true friends, enjoyed coaching youth baseball, camping with family and friends, mountain bike riding, playing disc golf, and loved being the family chef. Matt was an avid lover of music and he and his wife attended innumerable concerts together. He loved his 2 Bull Terriers, who also miss him greatly, and was not embarrassed to admit that the dogs slept on the bed. Ironically, Matt and Sheryse portrayed the parents of a child killed in an alcohol related traffic accident in Colfax High School's emotionally charged "Every 15 Minutes", to raise the awareness of the dangers of driving under the influence. The ripples that Matt created will continue to positively impact us as he made the world a better place to be.
