Liberals should butt out of Palin daughter pregnancy

I watched Barack Obama's response today to questions concerning the announcement by vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin that her 17-year-old unmarried daughter, Bristol, is five months pregnant.This is not the worst news a parent can hear about their child, not by a long shot. It's not the thing you hope to hear either, but it is something that's been going on since the beginning of time. Unmarried girls get pregnant whether their mom and dad are rich or poor, good or bad, public servants or clergy. It's not the parents who have failed or succeeded when their children make life-changing decisions. Sen. Obama got it right when he said it is a family matter that shouldn't be part of a political campaign. He reminded those reporters present that his mother had him when she was 18. But, the predictable attack dogs will be salivating over this news, but they shouldn't be so quick to attempt to gain political leverage out of this news. Liberals have for years been telling anyone who will listen that sex is a private matter that's only the business of the individual participants. They worked very hard to convince us that an elected official can do a terrific job despite what happens in the privacy of two people. It seems to me that if they truly believe their own rhetoric, want to be perceived as fair, consistent, and credible, then liberals will treat this news the same way Obama has: They'll leave it alone!
