Proud Boy arrested outside local LGBTQ+ group leader's home

A man describing himself as a Proud Boy was arrested March 23 for disturbing the peace outside Rev. Casey Tinnin's house. Tinnin is the leader of a local group for LGBTQ+ youth and their parents, according to their website. According to the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism website, Proud Boys believe men and western culture are under attack by a liberal movement. Although the group officially rejects white supremacy, some members have participated in overtly racist, violent and anti-progressive events. Citrus Heights Police Department Sgt. William Dunning told Gold Country Media that a citizen's arrest was made on Placer County resident Jeffrey Perrine. He was later cited by law enforcement. "Multiple neighbors called and were upset at the type of disturbance and the number of people outside," Dunning said. "Perrine had a following with him but he was the only one cited because he was the main organizer." According to California law on ca.gov, a private person can arrest another "for a public offense committed or attempted in his presence, when the person arrested has committed a felony although not in his presence, and when a felony has been in fact committed, and he has reasonable cause for believing the person arrested to have committed it," (penal code 837). The Citrus Heights Police Department report was made at 9:30 p.m. March 23. On March 21, Tinnin said that he had been the target of bomb and death threats after Project Veritas, a national conservative organization, released a video about how he runs his organization, The Landing Spot. There have been mixed emotions within the community about whether there were any wrong-doings recorded in the video. In a letter read aloud by Kevin Kalia who said it was on Tinnin's' behalf at the March 23 Roseville Joint Unified High School District meeting, he said, "Proud Boys paraded outside my home with a megaphone calling me a groomer, pedophile, and said I should not feel safe in my neighborhood." Perrine, who attended the school board meeting, said he had been at Tinnin's home. "I appreciate you (school board) taking the time to let Casey Martinez (Tinnin) know he's not safe on campus. He should be banned from all campuses," Perrine said March 23. "I'm the guy who went to his house and I recommend that everyone joins me cause I'll be there tonight again." After the March 23 meeting, Dunning said approximately 30 spectators and protestors were outside the Tinnin residence and that the Citrus Heights Police Department spent nearly an hour at the scene conducting interviews. Perrine was given a citation from the Citrus Heights Police Department and released the same night. Placer County Supervisor Shanti Landon condemned Perrine's behavior in a Facebook post on March 24. "I was utterly sickened this morning as I watched a man speaking to the RJUHSD school board last night who proudly proclaimed that he had gone to Pastor Casey's house," she said. "That might be what he (Perrine) does, but that is not what I do or what we should do. Harassing those we disagree with is wrong and it's intellectually stunted. It breaks my heart that this is even something we have to be discussing, and unfortunately reminds me of the witch hunts of old." Landon added "while I am gravely concerned with some of the things that Pastor Casey has said, he is a fellow human. There is no justification for a violent mob mentality or veiled threats of this man. I strongly implore everyone to engage in thoughtful dialogue, stand by your convictions, and to treat others with respect regardless of whether or not you agree with them. This type of behavior hurts everyone, including those it claims to protect. Placer County, we are better than this." Republican Party denounces Perrine Perrine is a former member of the Republican Party of Sacramento County. On Jan. 25, 2021, the group unanimously called for the resignation of Perrine in response to his "expressed desire to maintain membership in an organization whose views and actions are inconsistent with the values of the Republican Party." Perrine was the inspiration behind a committee resolution to "denounce all groups that call for hate or violence whether the target is government officials or buildings, law enforcement, places of business or worship, or neighborhoods," according to a January 2021 press release from the Republican Party of Sacramento County.
