Loomis sponsors town cleanup day May 13

The town of Loomis is sponsoring a community spring cleanup day on May 13 at Del Oro High School. In cooperation with refuse contractor Recology-Auburn, Loomis will collect refuse from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 13 at the Del Oro High School's upper parking lot at 3301 Taylor Road in Loomis. The event is strictly for residents who reside within the town limits. Identification showing town residency is mandatory and there will be no exceptions, officials said. Workers will begin accepting refuse at 8 a.m. May 13 and a backhoe will be available to lift heavy items. Residents must unload their own trash into a dumpster and help will only be available for heavy items. Because of limited space, only small trailers are allowed. No U-hauls and no large trailers loaded with trash will be allowed. Paper shredding will be available for office paper waste. The following E-waste is allowed: * Computers, computer monitors, laptop computers and computer peripherals * Televisions, HD and Plasma TVs, LCD monitors and stereo equipment * Telephones, radios, tape player/recorders and phonographs (record players) * Cash registers, answering machines and calculators * Video cassette player/recorders (VCRs) and CD player/recorders. Not accepted are refrigerators, freezers, mattresses, washing machines, air conditioners, car batteries, pool chemicals, pressure cylinders, hazardous waste, ammunition, full aerosol cans, pesticide cans and waste oil. No paint except for dry latex paint can be brought to the cleanup day. Residents can dispose of up to five tires. Loomis officials stress that mattresses can be brought to Western Placer Waste Management Authority at 3195 Athens Ave., Lincoln or the Auburn Placer Transfer Station at 12305 Shale Ridge Road, Auburn for free.
