Gene Stanley Englebrite 4/28/1937 - 1/17/2023

Gene and his twin brother Joe were born in Yuba City to Eugene and Melba Engelbrite. He grew up in Sacramento and was known as Stan most of his life. Stan attended Sac. H.S. where he excelled in basketball and track. In 1954 at age 17, he enlisted in the Coast Guard. He also served in the Air Force. In 1955 he married Mary Lou Velez in Oakland. Stan worked for Raley's as a butcher for most of his life. For a short time he owed Quality Market in Newcastle. He retired in 1998, now he has more time for fishing. It was said "if Stan's a missing he's gone fishing." He enjoyed teaching his children, grandkids and many others to fish. Mary Lou died in 2022, Stan remarried Diane Parks. Diane and Stan lived in Magalia until the Camp Fire, then they moved to Corning. Stan is survived by his wife Diane, children; Jerry, Gene (Debbie), Martin (Adrienna), Suzette (Keith) and stepdaughter Debbie. Also 6 grandchildren and 10 great grands. His brother Joe and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Stan was a member of Table Mt. Masonic Lodge, Butte County Scottish Society. He was also a member of Sons of Norway. One of his proudest accomplishments was working on his Genealogy. While doing this research, he was able to put headstones for his great grandfather and family at Belle Mill Cemetery, above Paynes Creek. His great grandfather Anton Engelbretsen had two lumber mills in this area. These two mills eventually became part of Sierra Pacific Lumber Co. Stan was a people person, who never met a stranger. He went out of his way to help others in many ways. A graveside service will be held at Manzanita Cemetery later this summer.
