South Placer lacrosse roundup: Roseville boys stay undefeated, Lady Grizzlies close out regular season third in section

The high school lacrosse season is in its final week of action for area teams and some squads have already finished their regular season and are playing in league tournaments. Here is a look at how all area teams have recently performed. Whitney High versus Rocklin High The Wildcats hosted the Thunder for the Quarry Faceoff in the final regular season game and came away with an 11-3 win to progress to 11-6 overall. Rocklin High kept it close at 2-2 in the first quarter with goals by junior Lex Shafer while Joe Ligas and University of Nevada at Reno commit Caden Smith scored for the Wildcats. Smith finished with four goals on the night and has totaled 40 goals and 23 assists on the season. He is also the sole four-year varsity starter on the team. "It has been a great experience seeing the team grow every year," Smith said. "It's what makes you want to be out here and it's special to watch the sport grow as a whole. We have all around better ball movement as a whole and everyone is dodging and cutting. It's a well-oiled machine, compared to previous seasons." Spencer Easton scored for Whitney High in the second quarter to give them a 3-2 halftime lead. The Wildcats opened it up in the third with four goals, including two by Smith, one by Kaleb Rodgers and another by freshman Reed Van Stralen. Both goalkeepers had a great night as Whitney High's Carson Kinnan had 11 saves while Rocklin High junior Nolan Grieshaber totaled 12 stops. The Thunder finished the regular season 8-9 heading into their league tournament this week. The Whitney High girls' team lost its last three regular season games to fall to 2-15 overall heading into the playoffs this week. The two wins for Whitney High have come against Roseville High and Bella Vista High. Woodcreek High versus Rocklin High The Lady Thunder picked up their fourth win of the season with a 18-10 victory over Woodcreek High on Monday night. Rocklin High was led by senior Avery Wilkins who scored seven goals including four in the first half. Wilkins has scored 33 goals and six assists for the Thunder this season and has played all four years. "I think we were definitely working more as a team tonight, there was a lot more connection than usual and I think there was a lot more hype for senior night," Wilkins said. "The whole season has been awesome and it was really good to go out with a bang." Junior Ava Duvane scored four goals, including a behind the back finish in the second half, and senior Julia McClean put three in the back of the net. Woodcreek High was down 10-2 at halftime but began scoring in the second half as senior Hailey Lawson and sophomore Addie Strong both finished with four goals. The loss drops the Lady Timberwolves to 4-7 on the season and they will finish their season against Oakmont High on Thursday night. On the boys' side, the Timberwolves progressed to 6-1 in the Foothill Valley League with a 12-9 win over Christian Brothers High on Monday. The Timberwolves trailed 4-1 early but fought back to secure their seventh win of the season. Woodcreek High has won four of their last five games and have been led by senior Camden Tronnes, who has 39 goals and is fifth in California with 40 assists. Jameson Coffinberry has scored 45 goals for the Timberwolves. Brayden Burke has 184 saves in goal. Woodcreek High will travel to Lincoln High for their final regular season game on Wednesday, after press time. Oakmont High The Oakmont Vikings boys' lacrosse team battled to triple overtime with Lincoln High in a 7-6 loss on Friday night in their final home game of the season. Oakmont High were down 2-0 at halftime, despite having a 16-6 shot advantage but gained some momentum in the third quarter with solid defense and scored four goals, two by Derek Prior, one from Heath Beardsley and another by Triston Timmons. Brian Guerrero also made multiple saves and finished the night with eight stops in goal. "In the first half, we did a good job at possessing the ball and working it around but we were not communicating and were very quiet on offense," Oakmont coach Zack Wall said. "I think what changed in the second half was the emphasis on communication." Senior and University of Oregon commit Michael Dallas got the Zebras back in the game in the fourth quarter with two early goals but Oakmont High kept the lead with another Prior goal to complete his hat trick. Zebra senior Isaiah Eberhardt scored to tie the score before the Vikings would take the lead yet again with Beardsley's second goal of the night. Zebra senior Gianni Faria scored with just over four minutes remaining to send the game into overtime. Eberhardt scored the winner 85 seconds into the triple overtime period. The Lady Vikings are 0-4, following a 15-6 loss to Bella Vista High on April 19. Senior Megan Hales has scored 14 goals while adding three assists in four games. Junior goalkeeper Reagan Boyle has 57 saves for Oakmont High. The Vikings will face Woodcreek High on Thursday before playing Christian Brothers High on Friday. Roseville High The Roseville High boys' lacrosse team remains undefeated, following a 9-8 win over Nevada Union High on Monday. The Tigers were down 7-6 entering the final quarter, but scored three goals against the Miners in the final 12 minutes to progress to 13-0. Senior Owen Walker has led the way with 39 goals and 16 assists while Carson Moore has 26 goals and 21 assists. Collin Feusi has 113 saves in goal. The Tigers are currently sixth in the Sac-Joaquin Section MaxPreps rankings and face Grant High on Wednesday, after press time. The girls have lost their last two matches to drop to 1-11 on the season, including games against Woodcreek High and Christian Brothers High. The Lady Tigers' sole win on the season came on March 30 with a 12-11 victory over Oakmont High. Granite Bay High The Grizzlies boys' lacrosse team is tied for first in the Sierra Foothill League, following a 13-12 win over Oak Ridge High on Monday night. Granite Bay High won its last six regular season games by outscoring their opponents 85-26. The Grizzlies are ranked third in the Sac-Joaquin Section behind Vista Del Lago High and Oak Ridge High. On the girls' side, the Lady Grizzlies closed out their regular season with an 18-6 win over Del Oro High last Thursday. Granite Bay High was second in the Sierra Foothill League at 8-2 behind Oak Ridge High, which was 10-0 and first in the section. The Grizzlies won four of their last five games, including victories over Rocklin High, Whitney High and Folsom High. West Park High The Panthers won their third game in program history on Monday in a 11-10 victory against Lincoln High of Stockton. Junior Mathew Stasinowsky scored five goals for West Park High while Jordan Davenport and Jackson Stewart both scored two goals in the game. Stasinowsky has 39 goals and eight assists for the Panthers in eight games. Sophomore goalkeeper Jaxon Moore had 11 saves in the contest. West Park High will face Christian Brothers High at home on Wednesday, after press time.
