Marilyn Ann Peters McGrew 7/171925 - 5/26/2023

Marilyn Ann Peters McGrew passed peacefully at home on May 26, 2023 at the age of 97. She was born on July 17, 1925 in Albany, California to Dr. Roger and Miriam Peters. She was the youngest of 3 children, and she survived her sister Dorothy and her brother Dudley. She attended UC Berkeley, majoring in Art and in 1948, she married John McGrew. Marilyn and John raised 5 children in the San Francisco Bay Area, moving from San Mateo, to Belmont, to Foster City as more children required larger houses. As the children grew up and moved away, John and Marilyn downsized, moving to Cupertino and then to Auburn, California in 1980. Marilyn and John built a new Auburn home, perfect for large family gatherings. Marilyn was heavily involved in the design of the house, modifying plans, and making cutouts of furniture to ensure everything fit in the house. Marilyn and John were very active. They belonged to a monthly dance group, a bridge group, and both loved playing tennis and golf. Marilyn, a member of the Auburn Valley Country Club, played golf until her seventies and loved watching golf on TV. As an active member and past president of the Auburn Cribbage Club, she frequently competed in Cribbage tournaments throughout the western states. Marilyn stayed in the house they'd built until she passed. Her daughter, Margie, retired from the Air Force and moved in with her. They loved taking cruises together all over the world. Marilyn had a happy and vivacious personality, and it was a joy to hear her laugh. Her family loved telling jokes that would crack her up. She especially loved jokes that were not squeaky clean. Marilyn was predeceased by her husband John in 1993 and her daughter Kathleen in 2000. She is survived by 4 children, Thomas (husband Gregory Bishop), Marjorie, Jacquelyn (husband John Mann), and Fred. She is also survived by her grandchildren Kimberly, Christopher, James, Brittany, and Emilee and her great-grandchildren Shaun, Eloise, and Madeline, as well as multiple nieces and nephews.
