District 11 Little League baseball all-star tournaments set to start

With the Tournament of Champions wrapped up, local little leagues are gearing up to put their best to the test with the District 11 all-star baseball tournaments set to begin this week. All tournaments are double elimination, and the champions will advance to the section tournaments in July. Here is where each level will be played: 8- to 10-year-olds: The tournament was set to begin Tuesday, June 27, and run through July 6 at Beggs Field in Auburn. The tournament begins with Tri City taking on Sierra Foothills on Tuesday at 5 p.m., followed by Rocklin and Nevada City. The first round concludes Wednesday with Bear River versus Grass Valley and Auburn taking on Lincoln. 9-11: The tournament starts Saturday, July 1, at Tri City Little League in Rocklin and runs through July 8. The tournament field features six teams with Lincoln and host Tri City receiving first-round byes. The action begins with Auburn taking on Grass Valley at 3:30 p.m., followed by Sierra Foothills facing Rocklin. The Auburn-Grass Valley winner will face Tri City on Sunday night while the winner of Sierra Foothills-Rocklin will play Lincoln on Sunday. Majors: Eleven little leagues will be represented at McBean Park in Lincoln as the 10- to 12-year-olds will battle to keep their summer of baseball going all the way to Williamsport. The tournament begins Tuesday as Foresthill takes on Penn Valley and Auburn faces Grass Valley. Opening-round action continues Wednesday with Tri City squaring off against Bear River and Mid-Placer facing Rocklin. Nevada City, Sierra Foothills and Lincoln received first-round byes and begin play Thursday. The tournament runs through July 8. Juniors: Grass Valley will host the tournament at Condon Park from July 1-8. Auburn and Grass Valley received first-round byes and will await the results of Saturday's games to see who they play. Auburn will take on the Nevada City-Rocklin winner while Grass Valley will take on the Lincoln-Tri City winner.
