Manuel "Sal" Celestino Salcido 2/24/1938 - 6/14/2023

"SAL" was born Manuel Celestino Salcido on February 24th, 1938, at the now historic Canoa Ranch on the outskirts of Tucson, AZ. His mother Rita and his father Juan brought 11 children into this world, Sal being the 7th child and the 3rd and last son. The Salcido's had just the one radio in the three-bedroom dirt floored home that was lit by Kerosene lamps and warmed by a single wood stove. He loved listening to Pedro Infante and shows like The Green Hornet and The Shadow. Getting milk directly from the cows and meat from the famed ranch itself were daily adventures Sal had with his dog Buster for ranch life was full of love, beauty and adventure. Sal grew up in a household of dancing which would serve him well for in the spring of 1959 in San Francisco while on deployment as a sailor on the U.S.S. Ticonderoga aircraft carrier he met 'the one' her name was Donna Marie VanZant. They met at the 'S.O.S.' enlisted men's club. Sal was 21 and Donna was 18, a native to San Francisco and a very accomplished and trained dancer in her own right. They danced that night and would do so until Sal's Day of Light came on the morning of June 14th, 2023, at the age of 85. Sal and Donna were married 64 years. They began their family in San Francisco where Sal took a job in the Gas Department at PG&E before transferring to the up-and-coming South Bay City of San Jose. This is where they would live and raise their four children until his retirement that ended a 34-year tenure with PG&E. This triggered the empty nesters to land in 'Sun City' Lincoln in 1999, the very home that Sal breathed his last due to complications of heart failure, where he was at peace with loved one's beside him. Sal led a life of love to his wife and children; he was dedicated to that love from beginning to end. He left this world having lived a life fully - marked by travel, vacations, devotion, humility. He will never be forgotten. His good charm, great looks, sense of humor, talent for dancing to great musical standards and devotion to family will always be cherished and honored. He is survived by his wife Donna Van Zant Salcido; children Teresa (Scott) Cash of Granite Bay, Linda (Horst) Lehmann of Granite Bay, Cindy (Erik) Hardgrave of Campbell, and Steven Salcido of Roseville; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his living siblings Tillie, John, Grace, Delphina, Rosemary, Mary and Yolonda; and many loved ones from the Salcido and Van Zant families. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said July 14 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with inurnment at Manzanita Cemetery in Lincoln.
