Local business to host National Night Out street fair event Aug. 1

An evening of neighborhood camaraderie and connecting with local law enforcement in the form of a street fair is coming to Old Town Auburn. Old Town Auburn Business Association and Linnsey's Cleaning Services are teaming up to throw the National Night Out event next Tuesday. The event, which will shut down a portion of Old Town Auburn streets, is scheduled from 6-9 p.m. Aug. 1. National Night Out is a community building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood connection. Linnsey Dolson, who owns Linnsey's Cleaning Services, started the Old Town National Night Out event last year and said this year aims to draw even more families. "We are expecting to have at least twice the amount of people as last year," Dolson said. "This year, we had more planning leading up to the event and it's just going to be phenomenal." Officers from the Auburn Police Department, Auburn City Fire Department, Placer County Probation and Placer County Chaplains will be on hand. Vendor booths, hosted by local businesses, will feature activities and games for children. "I just see such an opportunity to have the businesses give back to our community," Dolson said. "And it's wonderful to put a personal touch on our law enforcement. It's just so amazing to have everyone get together." Activities for the children include cookie decorating, woodworking stations, a candy drop from a tow truck, planting station, face painting and more carnival-themed activities as well. A highlight last year, Police Chief Ryan Kinnan will again be sitting in the dunk tank at the event. There will also be a water slide bounce house, so bring those swimsuits. Grocery Outlet is providing hot dogs and water for attendees, and members of Auburn Hook and Ladder will prepare the food. Cotton candy, snow cones and popcorn will be provided by Linnsey's Cleaning Services. Dolson estimated there would be double the booths at the event this year. Local businesses involved include Linnsey's Cleaning Services, Grocery Outlet, Auburn Chamber of Commerce, Mountain Mandarin Festival, Stenius Real Estate, Hall's Towing, AR-17 Landscape, Sierra Pro Home Services, Gina Marie's Custom Desserts, Macpherson Makery LLC, Verinia Zamora Real Estate Agent, Vijay Samtani Travel, Fair Oaks Recovery, Moose Lounge, Primerica/PFS Investments, Auburn Hook and Ladder, Brookdale Senior Living, Villara Flooring, Creative Music Services, Tango Frozen Yogurt, Mel's Diner, SpringHill Suites and Mountain Genie Face Painting. The event, including the food and activities, is free to the public.
