Vista Jr. Eagles vs. Del Oro Peewee Del Oro 6, Vista 0 It was a sunny 87° at kickoff of the VJE Peewees' first preseason cross divisional game against the Del Oro Jr. Golden Eagles on Saturday. Ryan Castro kicked off. In the first drive, Bryson Nudelman had a successful carry. A fumbled snap led to a turnover; the Golden Eagles converted into a touchdown but Tucker Harris prevented extra points. A run by Christian Sa-francis and the Eagles are at their own 23-yard line. Turnover on downs gave possession to the Golden Eagles. Tackles by Kieran McLeod and Braylon Sparks, and good coverage by Wade Stover showed the Eagles' good defense. QB Miles Kubik connected with Austin Steineke to end the half. Third quarter, tackles by Ryan Castro, James Wright and Bryson Nudelman highlighted the Eagles' defense. The Golden Eagles were knocking on the end zone again in the fourth but were held at their own 5-yard line until the end of the game. The Vista Jr. Eagles held the Del Oro Jr. Golden Eagles to one touchdown with the final score off 6-0. Jr. Midgets Vista 18, Del Oro 14 On Saturday, August 19, the Vista Jr. Eagles Jr. Midgets had their first non-division preseason game against the Del Oro Golden Eagles on a blazing hot day at Del Oro High School. It was a close game all the way through with the Vista Eagles edging out the Golden Eagles, 18-14. Travis Kaestner led the Eagles scoring with a rushing TD, kickoff return for a TD, and a TD reception from Alex Harris. The credit goes to the Vista Eagles offensive and defensive lines, which were massively outsized by the Golden Eagles yet were able to dominate in the trenches. This outstanding linemen job was led by Carter Mellow and Max Olsen-Marks. And a final shout out to Kellen Rohrer for his rushing and tackles on the defensive side of the ball. The Vista Eagles play their first home game at Livermore Park this Saturday against the Rocklin Jr. Thunder. Midgets Del Oro 24, Vista 16 The Vista Junior Eagles Midget team opened their season with a match up against the Del Oro Jr. Golden Eagles on Saturday. The Golden Eagles started off quickly with a touchdown and two-point conversion and a field goal to take an early 11-0 lead. Early in the second quarter Vista got in the scoring column with a 25-yard touchdown pass from Colin Mannion to Brock Boles. Boles made a great catch at the two-yard line, dragging his defender into the end zone. Kian Hayatdavoudi made the conversion kick for two points to make the score 11-8. On Del Oro's ensuing drive, Cruz Becerra intercepted a Del Oro pass and returned it 20 yards to midfield. Strong defense by both teams held the score to 11-8 at halftime. Vista kicked off to start the second half. On the Golden Eagles return, Trenton Kaestner made a big hit and forced a Golden Eagle fumble that was recovered by Boles at the Golden Eagles 8-yard line. Several plays later, Mannion hit Gavin Brainerd on a 5-yard swing pass for a Jr. Eagle touchdown. Hayatdavoudi made the conversion kick for two points to make the score 16-11. Despite several strong runs by Brainerd and Mannion, the Vista Junior Eagles were unable to push anything else across for a score in the second half. Vista's defense held their own with many strong tackles and hits, led by Kaestner, Becerra, Drake Menezes, Sam Whitten, and Miles Schulze. Despite a hard-fought battle, the Vista Junior Eagles fell to the Golden Eagles 24-16 with several late scores by Del Oro.
