Patricia Sanders 1939 - 2023

Our beautiful mom passed away September 18, 2023, at age 84 surrounded by love. She wanted to be with our dad and there was no stopping her after 60 years of marriage. Knowing they are together again gives us great comfort. A native of Eureka, California, she graduated from Eureka High School in 1958, and went on to attend Humboldt State University. She was a high school and collegiate cheerleader and cheered for all our Dad's sports teams. In her younger years she worked at White House Fashions in Eureka with her lifelong best friend, Gwen Stuart. They had so much fun working together and modeling clothes that were featured in the Times Standard Newspaper. In 1962, she married the love of her life, Al Sanders. They had Scott in 1963, and Julie in 1966. Pat poured her heart into motherhood. She was involved in all aspects of her kids' lives. She was their ultimate cheerleader as room mother, Den Mother to Boy Scouts and Blue Birds, carpooling kids to activities and running the talent shows at school. She sat through many sporting events in the cold Eureka fog with a smile on her face cheering us along. If you ever attended one of our birthday parties, you understood how great of a mom she really was, once transforming our house into Disneyland for Julie's birthday! She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Eureka and Night Out Dance Club. In 1982, she purchased Eureka Florist with her good friend and business partner, Jan Westlund. She was an incredibly successful businesswoman and enjoyed helping the community by providing them with beautiful floral arrangements for their life's celebration. Pat loved summers spent with friends and family in Redway, Ruth Lake, Petrolia and Richardson's Grove. In the winters her and Al enjoyed skiing Mt. Bachelor and Tahoe. They loved to travel! In 2005, they moved to Lincoln Hills, California to be closer to their grandkids, Jack, Will and Kate. Nana went on to become their ultimate cheerleader, never missing a sporting event, band concert or playing the part of the fortune teller for their annual Halloween Haunted House. She was the fan favorite! While in Lincoln Pat loved soaking up the sun at the pool, playing bridge with her girlfriends and entertaining at her home. Pat is survived by her son Scott Sanders, wife Heidi, and grandchildren Jack, Will and Kate, daughter Julie Sanders, wife Cindy Jones and stepdaughter Abbey Jones. At Pat's request a private family service will be held in her honor. In lieu of donations or planting a tree, buy a flower, put it in a vase on the kitchen table, and think of Pat.
