Juvenile, 15, arrested following Tuesday lockdown at Placer High

The Auburn Police Department arrested a 15-year-old male in relation to a lockdown at Placer High School on Tuesday afternoon. The police department reported officers were dispatched to the high school regarding a possible armed subject on campus. The Placer Union High School District confirmed administration immediately contacted APD and placed the campus on a precautionary lockdown at 1:07 p.m. APD reported officers confirmed the subject was no longer on campus. The investigation revealed the subject was not a Placer High student and posted threatening messages and a photo of a firearm on social media. APD reported the subject was then seen on campus near lunchtime. According to the Auburn Police, officers located the subject at his home in the unincorporated area of Auburn and he was taken into custody. The suspect was booked into Placer County Juvenile Hall and charged with criminal threats. Due to the suspect being a juvenile, their identity is withheld. "We are extremely grateful for the swift and thorough handling of this incident by our law enforcement partners," the Placer Union High School District said in a written statement, confirming the lockdown was lifted at 1:38 p.m. "The safety of our students and staff is a top priority in our district. As such, our students and staff practice drills throughout the year for situations such as this." The Auburn Police Department recommends parents speak with their children about social media usage and ensure their children are comfortable talking to parents about concerning online messages.
