16th annual Auburn Big Time Pow Wow is Oct. 14

The 16th annual Auburn Big Time Pow Wow will be held from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Gold Country Fairgrounds. The celebration of indigenous music and dance will honor diverse Native American cultures and traditions. Native American dancers, drummers, singers and artists will gather from across the region at the fairgrounds, located at 209 Fairgate in Auburn. This fun-filled event hosts a market of native artists, crafts, cultural demonstrations and food booths. Starting the day will be California Native Dancing from 10-11 a.m. Gourd Dance will begin at 11, followed by the Grand Entry at noon. Tiny Tots and Youth contest will follow, with a dinner break at 5 p.m. Intertribal Dancing will continue until 9 p.m. The Auburn Big Time Pow Wow inspires cultural pride and provides an opportunity for tribal families to come together to celebrate significant life events, exchange arts and crafts, and to sing, dance and teach tribal customs. The event is sponsored by the Sierra Native Alliance of Auburn with the support of the Placer Campaign for Community Wellness. The event is free and open to the public with free parking.
