Silver Screen offers singing and snow for Christmas

The Silver Screen Classic Movie Series continues Saturday, Dec. 2, with an after-WWII Christmastime musical from 1954. This movie combines friendship and comedy, patriotism and dancing – with a squabble, and a happy ending. Plus, we get Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera Ellen. And Irving Berlin's talent. Snow, too. This movie is shown at noon, 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 in the Beecher Room of the Auburn Library, 350 Nevada St. in Auburn. During the war, singing helps them work together, and finally, singing helps these veterans celebrate – and help – their former General Waverly (Dean Jagger). In between these Christmases, bickering singers Crosby and Kaye meet sisters Clooney and Ellen. And as the four sing together, they (surprise!) fall in love. However, the road to love is a tad bumpy. Of course it is – the better to finally make us happier and much relieved, especially as their Christmas finally turns white.
