Bulldogs finish off Stan Harms Classic with a win

Folsom faced a tough test in the final round of the Stan Harms Classic on Saturday. What Cosumnes Oaks lacks in quantity (they only have seven players) all seven of their players are of good size, athletic and can play the game, as their 10-4 record shows. Folsom (6-5) needed a 14-2 to run to start the fourth quarter to win the game. Leading only by two points, 44-42 at the start of the quarter, Folsom got off to a great start to put the game away, leading 58-44 with 4:15 to play. Folsom went on to win the game 66-49. "We started making the extra pass and hit three open threes that were comfortable and in rhythm and weren't forced shots," Folsom coach Mike Wall said. "Jovan and Ethan were feeling it and had confidence and we got it to the right guy and they were able to knock it down." Cosumnes Oaks trailed by as many as 16 points late in the second quarter, but came all the way back to tie the game by making their first basket of the fourth quarter, 44-44. From there it was all Bulldogs. After Cosumnes Oaks tied the game at 44, Jovan Dulay knocked down a three. Chase Rawlins hit one of two free throws before Dulay hit another three. Ethan Bareggi followed with a three-pointer of his own. Rawlins then made a steal and layup and Ryder Lyons ended the run with a layup in transition and just like that Folsom held a 58-44 lead. "We also turned up the defensive intensity and turned them over a few times," Wall said. "We made some nice plays. Putting those two things together is the secret sauce. You turn up the defensive intensity and hit some open threes and you're going to win a lot of games." Dulay led the Bulldogs with 17 points, while Bareggi scored 16 and Rawlins added 13, and LJ Bridges chipped in eight.
