Marlins hook Potters manager Marjama

Mike Marjama's stint as manager of the Lincoln Potters has ended before it even began. After spending the last two summers as an assistant coach with the team, the Potters named Marjama manager in September. Wednesday, Lincoln announced the Granite Bay High School graduate and former big-leaguer was hired by the Miami Marlins as the hitting coach for their High-A affiliate, the Beloit Sky Carp. "For the last two years in Lincoln, I found my love for giving back as a coach to the very game that gave so much to me as a player," said Marjama, who has reported to Florida to join the organization at spring training. "I am thankful to the entire Potters organization and community of Lincoln for allowing me to be a small part of such a special place." Marjama said he looks forward to the challenge of coaching at the next level. "There is a palpable energy and excitement being back amongst the best players in the world, and I am looking forward to continuing to learn, grow and pour into these young men," Marjama said. Marjama assured the Lincoln faithful he will still be around, saying, "For now, it's not a goodbye but simply a see you later. I'll see you all this offseason." The Potters said in a post on the team's Facebook that Marjama will stay involved in the organization from afar and will provide assistance to the new coaching staff. The team said it will announce the new manager in the coming days as it begins its transition to the newly formed Pacific Empire League this season. Marjama and the Sky Carp open their season April 5 at home against the Cedar Rapids Kernels.
