Trojans win twice, topple Vista

Oak Ridge's varsity girls' lacrosse team won two matches last week to improve to 4-0 on the season. One of those wins came Friday night, when they trounced Vista del Lago, 17-0. The game, however, had a higher purpose, as it served as the annual breast cancer awareness game, as both teams raised money for the effort. "Both programs joined together for a ceremony to recognize those impacted by breast cancer and to remind everyone to stay diligent in the efforts to prevent it," Oak Ridge coach Chris Gehrke said. "We had a good week of practice and everyone was in sync the entire game. Our defense was tenacious and our offense played fast with intensity. A big difference in the game was our ability to control the draw with Tori Ross, Kate Carpenter and Annika Tanner leading the way." Oak Ridge opened the week with a 13-6 win over Davis. Ella Rutherford scored five goals followed by Annika Tanner and Caitlin Beckman each with three. For the two games, Rutherford scored nine goals, while Tanner added six and Beckman scored five. Ross and Simone Johnson also added three goals, while Brooklyn Price, Sofia Williams, Kate Carpenter and Carly Rea each scored one goal. Price led the team with five assists, while Beckman had three followed by two from Johnson and Williams and one each from Tanner, Rutherford, Ross, and Carpenter. This week figures to be one of the toughest weeks of the season for the Trojans, as they play road games at San Ramon Valley on Tuesday and at Torrey Pines on Friday. The loss to Oak Ridge dropped Vista's record to 3-3. Vista plays host to Bella Vista on Wednesday before traveling to Rio Americano on Friday.
