Ann Heath Fleming 4/18/1942 - 8/9/2023

We lost our beautiful mother, Ann Heath Fleming, last year on August 9, 2023. She was such a positive light in our lives and so many others. Soon after visiting Lincoln, she and my father, Al Fleming married. They both loved nature and were accomplished hikers. For their honeymoon, they hiked Mt. Whitney. When they were not camping or adventuring, our mom worked very hard on the Fleming property creating beautiful gardens full of every vegetable and of course, my Mom's stunning, signature roses (all the while hand watering, fighting off deer, gophers, aphids, and grasshoppers). For many, many years she worked in Lincoln as a nurse. I am sure many of you remember the kind, calming, caring, capable nurse who you trusted at Dr. Dubin's office. Within a few years, Matthew, Rachel, and Joshua were born. Our mom always cooked breakfast for us all, and we always sat down for her homemade family dinners. Annie was also a very hard worker, gifted baker, and chef who created the most fun and delicious parties! Our mom often read aloud to us when we were children, and this was a special time, something we always looked forward to—resulting in helping create three English teachers in Matthew, Rachel, and Josh. SHE was the rose of her childrens' lives. Our Mom gave and gave to us and to everyone around her. Her heart was generous beyond what we normally define as generous. Later in life, she went on to work with challenged adults and brought so much creativity and joy to their world. Annie was also a brilliant historian. She read and researched family as well as English and American history because she valued and loved it. We remember asking her random questions about family history or World War I or II, and she could answer it in context and then some. Most importantly, my Mom taught us to "be" —a fleeting concept in our current, racing present. She taught us to enjoy the moment, and drink in and learn from whatever that moment had to give. Undoubtedly, this is why our Mom lived so long with Parkinson's disease—a disease with devastating symptoms that began in her fifties. Even though Annie lived in constant pain and with disabilities, she fought and fought living much longer than her doctors' expected. She fought to see her children grow up; she fought to meet her grandchildren and be a part of their lives. During this later time of her life, she still exuded a positive attitude and her wonderful sense of humor, and she was still generous and kind, still. There are few of us that could survive what our Mom survived with so much love, dignity, and strength. We miss her greatly every day, and we will never forget this incredibly strong, smart, hilarious, interesting, creative, kind, generous, thoughtful, fighter and beloved mother and grandmother. She was an undeniable, revolutionary light! We are having a Celebration of Life for her at 541 5th St. Lincoln, CA at Lincoln Veterans Memorial Hall August, 3 11:30-2.
