New Folsom fitness studio offers cutting-edge workouts

A new cutting-edge type of fitness studio has opened its doors in Folsom, adding to the narrative that the city is becoming a health and fitness hub. HOTWORX infrared fitness studio held a ribbon-cutting ceremony recently and received an enthusiastic welcome from the community. The new studio is located at 1870 Prairie City Road in the Folsom Crossings shopping center. The studio is unique in that it offers individual fitness studios which have what the owners call three-dimensional training: a combination of sauna, infrared light and exercise machines. There is a studio that has spin bikes, another with rowers and another with elliptical machines so you can choose what type of cardio you want. They also have 30-minute isometric workouts such as hot yoga and hot Pilates. Owner Jacqueline Heinz said she was excited to open a studio like this once she read various studies about the benefits of infrared energy. "The infrared benefits are just so many, the anti-inflammation, the calorie burn, the exercising of the immune system, you sleep like a baby," said Heinz. "I feel like I'm detoxing the heavy metals that we are eating, drinking and breathing in our environment these days. This is the best workout you can get because not only are you exercising but you're detoxing and you're getting the anti-inflammatory benefits from the infrared." The studios offer guided high-intensity interval training workout sessions, also known as HIIT, which people can follow, or they can do their own workout. Heinz already has another location in the Elk Grove area but said she has wanted to open a second studio in Folsom for some time. "Honestly, the reason we chose here is more about the community and what we know and learned about the community and we just know it's going to be a great place for business," said Heinz. "Folsom is definitely, if you look into some of the demographics, these people in Folsom work out 20 percent more than they do in our community in Elk Grove. It's a very active community." The Folsom Chamber of Commerce hosted the ribbon-cutting event. Representatives for local politicians, such as Congressman Kevin Kiley, Senator Roger Niello and State Assemblyman Josh Hoover attended the event to support the opening of the new business in the city.
