Hundreds celebrate National Night Out in Folsom

It was a night of community bonding and a chance to meet many city leaders up close and personal: National Night Out brought out hundreds of people in Folsom on Tuesday, with many organized events in local neighborhoods and parks. Members of the Folsom Police Department, Folsom Fire Department and City Council, and Folsom Assemblyman Josh Hoover (R) were out and about, connecting with their community and touring the various events. Folsom's Mounted Police Unit was an especially exciting draw for neighborhoods they visited, with community members offering carrots to the horses and getting a rare chance to meet the horses and their handlers, and learn more about them. Folsom Police's K-9 units were also popular draws as always, as well as the beloved therapy dogs Blitz and Liberty. Events such as these happened all around the country on Aug. 6. This was the 41st year of the nationwide event, which began as a way for neighborhood leaders to tell criminals crime was not acceptable or tolerated in their neighborhood. More recently, the event has evolved into a bonding opportunity, and a way to build partnerships within the community and public safety.
