Firefighters battling two new wildfires in El Dorado County, with evacuation orders and warnings underway

Firefighters are working hard battling two new wildfires burning in El Dorado County, with officials calling for evacuation orders and warnings in both areas. The Crozier Fire northeast of Placerville began in the early morning hours of August 7th; the Silver Fire began near Rescue later in the afternoon and is threatening structures. The Crozier Fire began at around 1:21 am on August 7th. The fire began near Slate Mountain which is northeast of Placerville, according to CalFire. As of this writing, CalFire said the fire is just 5 percent contained and has burned 245 acres. The blaze is now in unified command with CalFire and the U.S. Forest Service - Eldorado National Forest. Evacuation orders and warnings went into place for the Mosquito/Swansboro community and surrounding areas earlier this morning and later was extended to include the community of Volcanoville. Cal Fire said evacuation warnings are also in place for areas surrounding the fire. A temporary evacuation point has been set at the Placerville Library at 345 Fair lane in Placerville. This is not an overnight shelter, but a place to get some water, snacks and regroup, said CalFire. Pets are welcome on a leash or in kennels. The El Dorado County Animal Services Shelter is open to house animals displaced by the evacuation order, at 6435 Capitol Avenue in Diamond Springs. They said if nobody answers the door, please call 530-621-5795. The cause of the fire remains unknown and under investigation. The Silver Fire is currently at 35 acres, with air and ground resources on the scene in the area of Silver Leaf Drive and Green Valley Road, south of the community of Rescue, according to CalFire. Structures are threatened and as a result, evacuation orders have been issued along Green Valley Road near Green Springs Ranch and south of the community of Rescue. In addition to the temporary shelter for the Crozier fire, an evacuation shelter has also been established at 2502 Country Club Drive in the Cameron Park area for those affected by the Crozier and Silver fires. Leashed or kenneled pets are allowed at this location. CalFire said if there is an evacuation order, you're legally mandated to leave due to a threat to safety. If there is an evacuation warning, you are not required to leave but are recommended to do so just in case conditions become dangerous.
