Letters to the editor: Supervisor candidate Nader an advocate for solutions

Placer residents deserve representation and accountability from their leaders: Wayne Nader "is" that leader. We are inundated with Placer County "accomplishment" newsletters. Letters showing how busy they are spending our tax dollars. What is never shown are performance reports for those "accomplishments" for housing, traffic, infrastructure or services; priorities are never ranked and true expenditures are never given. Bottom line: Placer has not placed a priority on residents. Anything goes if it can't be measured and the "anything goes" typically goes to developers (see campaign donations). A change in leadership is needed. Placer County ranks ninth out of 58 counties for highest property taxes in California. With +$1.25-billion budget, there is little to no accountability for spending. The "true cost" of development is ignored. Cindy Gustafson has rubber stamped development "as submitted," ignoring impacts, lack of affordable/workforce housing and resident feedback. · As Planning Commissioner, Wayne Nader evaluated development projects on merits and made recommendations incorporating resident feedback and compatibility with existing neighborhoods. · Gustafson approved luxury gated communities with accessory dwelling units as affordable housing in new development while approving 3-5 story low-income projects in Auburn. · Wayne Nader was the lone "No" vote for the largest development in Placer history the Sunset Area Plan/Placer Ranch, stating the project was for the benefit of the developers and not good for residents. Residents asked repeatedly for a mix of housing. Gustafson said "Yes." · Gustafson approved some of the lowest affordable housing in-lieu fees in the state and "Equivalency,; a loophole that allows developers to kick affordable housing down the road indefinitely. Because affordable and workforce housing is never built by developers, the County is transferring that debt to residents under state pressure, effectively destroying established communities. Wayne Nader advocated and continues to advocate solutions, not transfer of cost to us. For representation and accountability, vote Wayne Nader for District 5 Supervisor. Preserve Auburn, Penryn and Granite Bay Amazed at Gustafson's work for Placer County Dear Editor, Having grown up in Auburn, I have been amazed at the amount of work that Placer County Supervisor Cindy Gustafson has done that directly benefits Placer County. For example, Cindy advocated on the Board of Supervisors for approved funding for new fire engines and upgrades to fire station facilities, enhancing the readiness of first responders across the region. This investment ensures that crews are better equipped to respond to fires rapidly and with more robust resources, critical to protecting Auburn. Placer County is considered to have the most "Firewise Communities" in the nation. These communities are recognized for their proactive wildfire prevention efforts, including reducing vegetation hazards and creating defensible spaces around homes. This achievement reflects the strong collaboration between Placer County residents and county leadership in fire preparedness. In her advocacy work, Supervisor Gustafson has organized multiple fire evacuation town halls, providing residents with essential information on preparedness and recovery. Additionally, she has actively engaged with Caltrans to address fuel reduction along the I-80 corridor, mitigating the risk of truck fires sparking larger blazes. As a lifelong resident, I appreciate how much Cindy cares about preserving the abundance of natural beauty and resources we have in Placer County. She supported the Hidden Falls Regional Park expansion that opened public access to one of the best hiking, biking, and horseback riding areas in the county, just a few miles from Auburn. Cindy actively supported approval of protecting approximately 2,500 acres of open space and natural habitats across various projects. These achievements reflect Cindy's commitment to preserving the amazing quality of life we have in Placer County. On Nov. 5, I will be voting for Cindy Gustafson for Placer County Supervisor. As the Supervisor for District 5, Cindy covers her Placer County district from the Tahoe area down to our Foothill area. She does this tirelessly, attending meetings with the community as well as individually. She goes above and beyond to address the concerns, and needs, of her constituents and the residents in the rest of Placer County. Harriet White North Auburn ARD candidate has support of chair Casey Brown is running for one of the open seats on the Auburn Area Parks and Recreation District (ARD) Board of Directors. As the senior member of the ARD Board and current chair, I am very thankful Casey has stepped up to serve the community, and he has my full support. I first ran into Casey years ago as he approached me for support of a Placer County nonprofit advocacy organization. I was impressed by his passion and professionalism and willingness to solicit support. Over the years, I've gotten to know Casey pretty well. His dedication as a father, husband, community member and businessman has constantly impressed me. Hehas been a great supporter of ARD programs and activities, be it as a coach or volunteer, taking on some thankless tasks so others can have a good time in our parks! I have also seen him take on leadership and fundraising roles in other organizations such as the local rodeo group. If elected, Casey would be the only board member with a child still participating in youth activities, a perspective I think would be most beneficial to the board. I also know Casey would not be a concern for going rogue and putting the district in any perilous legal situations. I also know that fiscally, Casey will work to protect the taxpayers and work within the budget and help keep the district in the good financial state is currently is in! Gustafson shows commitment to Placer County Dear sirs, I am concerned about the ugly efforts to unseat "Super Cindy" over the last two years. My collaboration with Supervisor Gustafson began the day she was appointed by Supervisor Jim Holmes to fill a vacant PC Supervisor vacancy. We worked together to support the Gathering Inn (TGI) and develop it to what it is today. This is a critical asset to Placer County in general and Auburn city specifically. She has prevailed through continuing terrible rumors, innuendos and the destruction of her campaign signs. I encounter Supervisor Cindy every Tuesday at the 0700 hrs Meddlers meeting in City Hall, where her punctuality, consistent attendance, and omnipresence attest to her unwavering work ethic. Even during adverse weather, she deploys from Truckee to Auburn ahead of the storm, exemplifying an extraordinary commitment to her responsibilities. There are two candidates officially on the ballot, Jeremy Jeffreys and Gayle Hamm. Jeremy has officially ended his campaign for personal reasons. We respect his decision. He has contacted Gayle Hamm directly, the Placer County Elections office, notifying them, and The Sacramento Bee. The Sacramento Bee has published two articles about this, one on Oct. 1 and one on Oct. 11, noting his name will remain on the ballot despite his desire to end his campaign, as ballots have already been printed. Our three sons all attended Placer Hills Elementary, Weimar Hills Middle School and Colfax High School. Gayle has volunteered in school classrooms, been on a school site council, been the chairperson for Sober Grad Night for seven years. She worked in classrooms for decades serving the needs of special needs children and their families. She remains committed to our students and community we live in. Please vote for Gayle Hamm. Chris Hamm Meadow Vista Make your vote matter in PUHSD race I recently read where Jeremy Jeffreys has decided to drop out of the Placer Unified High School District race. In fact, he has stated if he should win, he will not serve. Unfortunately, it is too late to take his name off the ballot and some people are still campaigning for him. If he indeed should win, a person will be appointed in this position, thereby ensuring having a board member who was never elected by the people. This happened before when my friend Jim Ferris was on the ballot for the ARD. He got sick that summer and his family took him to Oregon. He was still on the ballot and some campaigned for him and he won. But since he could not fulfill the office, a person was appointed, one who no one voted for. Please do not let this deception happen again. Vote for Gayle Hamm. She has lived in Meadow Vista for over 40 years, has three sons who attended Placer public schools and has given her time to various school activities. Make your vote matter. Rosalie Wohlfromm Auburn SPMUD candidate 'deeply involved' in community Dear Editor, We are writing to encourage your vote for Warren Jorgensen for the South Placer Municipal Utility District (SPMUD), Board of Directors, Ward 5. We have known Warren and his family for the past 33 years. Over the years, we have worked with Warren on many committees that support our Loomis church. Since the beginning, we have been impressed by Warren's helpfulness, dedication and flexibility. When we have a project, Warren volunteers to assist or to lead in whatever role is needed. Whether the group requires a set of hands in the gardens or someone to organize a large fundraiser, Warren can be counted upon to pivot, filling the many needs of a large group. Warren is especially gifted as a communicator who listens respectfully and thoughtfully to all. Warren offers his own independent observations and models an appreciation for the contributions of the whole group. Warren seeks for the inclusion of the many good ideas in the group so that there can be a better outcome for everyone involved. Warren Jorgensen has been deeply involved in many aspects of our South Placer community. He has served on multiple committees and commissions with distinction. As a community member, he has attended every SPMUD Board meeting since 2020. As a director, Warren will work diligently to keep rates low for families and businesses, but with a prudent eye to the longterm financial health of the district and the reliability of the physical system that provides this critical service to our community.
