Free movie! 'Dr. Strangelove' to show on Veterans Day

Auburn State Theatre's free-to-all Veterans Day movie, "Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb" screens at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at Veterans Memorial Hall, 100 East Street, Auburn. Stanley Kubrick's Cold War satire stars Peter Sellers in three roles, including the title character, and shows what could happen if the wrong person pushed the wrong button. In this dark comedy, U.S. Air Force General Jack Ripper (Sterling Hayden) goes completely insane and sends his bomber wing to destroy the Soviet Union, triggering a path to nuclear holocaust. The story follows the President of the United States (Sellers), his advisers, the Joint Chiefs of Staff and a Royal Air Force exchange officer (Sellers) as they attempt to prevent the crew of a B-52 (following orders from the general) from bombing the Soviet Union and starting a nuclear war.
