Auburn Journal columnist wins national award

Pauline Nevins, who contributes monthly to the Auburn Journal, received a third-place award from the National Society of Newspaper Columnists for her Dec. 2, 2023, article titled "Strangers and Sojourners." Nevins was awarded in the General Print category and was in good company. Christine Heinrichs of the San Luis Obispo Tribune won the category, and Chicago Sun Times columnist Dale Bowman placed second. Receiving honorable mention were writers from the New York Daily News, Newsday and the Culpeper Star-Exponent in Virginia. Nevins is a published author of the memoir "Fudge – The Downs and Ups of a Biracial, Half-Irish British War Baby," and two collections of personal essays: "Bonkers for Conkers," and "The Last House Before Spain." Her wit, dialogue and descriptive detail bring a light, bright voice to her writing. Her articles are always a welcome addition the Auburn Journal, which is proud of her achievement and congratulations her on this award.
