Holocaust survivor to share his story at Lincoln event

Chabad Jewish Center of Lincoln will host an evening with Holocaust survivor and author Leon Malmed and hear his incredible personal account of heroism and survival. The event will be held Thursday, Dec. 5, at the Lincoln Civic Auditorium, 511 5th Street. A meet and greet for VIP ticket holders will start at 6:15 p.m. Doors open at 6:45, and the program begins at 7. The event is open to the community. Seating is limited, and advance registration required. General admission is $10. A VIP ticket costs $100 and includes the meet and greet with Malmed and preferred seating during the program. Purchase tickets at www.JewishLincoln.com/lecture. Born in France in 1937, Malmed was a child when his parents were arrested by the Nazis in Occupied France in 1942. Neighbors Henri and Suzanne Ribouleau offered to watch Leon and his sister Rachel, thinking it would only be a few days until they returned. However, the parents never returned and the Ribouleau family risked their safety to protect the two Jewish children. Malmed immigrated to the United States in 1964 and currently resides in South Lake Tahoe. After 60 years of total silence about his childhood in World War II, he decided to write and publish his memoir, "We Survived ... At Last, I Speak." Malmed shares his story of heroism and survival in middle and high schools, colleges, universities, community centers and book clubs across the United States, Europe and South America.
