What an impact Virginia Lee Owens had on the lives of others! And now that she has passed, her influence will endure. She was a force in her own right, independent and intelligent. Ginny, as she was known to many, cared deeply about others and openly expressed her love and concern. She exuded warmth and a welcome to all she met, and like a mother hen, she took many into her care with open arms. Virginia was blessed to live to be 103 years old, and to the very end, she never lost her sense of joy in connecting with friends. She passed away at her home in Citrus Heights on September 10, 2024, surrounded by her loving (and ever-doting) family. Virginia was an amateur genealogist who loved tracing her roots. Over the decades, she accumulated many volumes of records, and even at 103, she could talk with amazing clarity and enthusiasm about her long-gone relatives and her family tree. Virginia graduated from San Juan High School, then attended Sacramento Junior College, and earned a degree in education from San Jose State University. Virginia loved learning and was unique as a woman in those days, with a life teaching credential from the University of California at Santa Barbara and a master's degree in special education from Cal Lutheran. Virginia was a devoted and highly respected elementary school teacher who taught first through fourth grades. She is preceded in her death by her father, Charles Edward Owens; her mother, Jane Owens; her brother, John C. Owens; and her husband, Don Pierce. She is survived by her son William (Bill) Allen Sciaroni and his wife Claudia Sciaroni; her granddaughter Rose Ora Sciaroni; Rose's husband Kevin Miescke, and great-grandson Theodore Miescke. She is also survived by her son, James (Jim) Charles Sciaroni, and his daughter, Sierra S. Sciaroni, and her fiancé, Jason Major. It is said that we die twice. Once when our physical life is taken away, and the second, the last time our name is spoken on earth. Virginia's name will be entered in the final volume of her genealogy, but her stories and memories of her will live on.
