Auburn girls soccer roundup: Colfax off to dominant start, Del Oro wins section championship rematch

With league play in full swing, the playoff picture in the prep girls soccer scene is starting to heat up. Last season, the Auburn area had three teams play for Sac-Joaquin Section championships and it looks to be full of contenders once again with the usual suspects fielding strong teams. Here is how each team has done to start the season: Colfax: It's been a dominant start for the three-time defending section champions. Colfax is 7-0 and has outscored its opponents 46-4. In Tuesday's 9-0 win over Wheatland, it took Colfax senior Kaia Diederichs just 17 minutes to record a hat trick as she netted her team's first three goals. Evie Reid scored two for the Falcons while Avery Boes, Maya Smiley, Micah Redding, and Emerson Crews each scored one. Colfax moved to 6-0 in Pioneer Valley League play Thursday night with a 1-0 win over Oakmont and extended its league winning streak to 55, dating to 2019. The Falcons have surrendered just two goals in league play, both in a 5-2 victory over Lincoln. Placer: The Hillgals are still seeking their first league win after tying Del Campo and Roseville in December and falling 2-0 to Twelve Bridges on Thursday night. Placer sits at 1-3-2 against stiff competition. Placer will host Yuba City on Tuesday. Del Oro: Following draws against Rocklin and Oak Ridge to open Sierra Foothill League play, Del Oro has picked up two impressive wins over league newcomers Davis and St. Francis to improve to 2-0-2 in the SFL. In Tuesday's 2-1 victory over Davis, the Golden Eagles got out to a 2-0 cushion before allowing a late goal but hung on to win the section championship rematch. The Golden Eagles will have a Saturday home match against Whitney.
