Chapa-De Indian Health accepting applications for April Moore Memorial Scholarship

Chapa-De Indian Health announced the April Moore Memorial Scholarship is accepting applications for the 2025-26 academic year, with new opportunities for students pursuing careers in healthcare. This annual scholarship, originally $1,000, has been expanded to offer awards up to $2,500 for students planning to enter the healthcare field. The scholarship honors the legacy of April Moore, a longtime Chapa-De board president who dedicated her life to advancing American Indian communities. Moore served on the Chapa-De Board of Directors for 26 years. The scholarship is open to American Indian students who are enrolled in or planning to attend college, technical school, trade school or vocational training programs. Eligible applicants must be from or have attended school in Placer, Nevada, Sierra, Sacramento or El Dorado counties. "Chapa-De Indian Health is proud to continue April Moore's legacy of supporting the education and advancement of American Indian students," said Lisa Davies, CEO of Chapa-De Indian Health. "By expanding this scholarship, we are investing in the future leaders of our community and encouraging careers in healthcare, a field that is vital to the wellbeing of our region and to our mission and values." Applications are due by Feb. 28, and winners will be announced in May. The Chapa-De Board of Directors carefully reviews applications and selects recipients based on their academic achievements, community involvement and potential to make a positive impact. Recipients are chosen annually, and previous applicants are encouraged to reapply if they continue to meet the qualifications. Eligibility requirements also include: Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, be American Indian/Alaskan Native (eligible for services at Indian Health Service (IHS) Clinics), and plan to pursue vocational training or a college degree.
