Auburn-area girls basketball roundup: Colfax, Del Oro, Forest Lake Christian pick up rivalry wins

Friday night's girls basketball slate was loaded with rivalries, including Del Oro-Granite Bay, Colfax-Bear River and Forest Lake Christian-Foresthill. With multiple games having league championship implications, there was much more than bragging rights on the line as the second half of league begins. Here are the highlights: Colfax 70, Bear River 38: The Lady Falcons planted their flag atop the Pioneer Valley League with a decisive win in Lake of the Pines. It was a showdown of two defending Sac-Joaquin Section champions and it was controlled by Colfax as the Falcons (15-6 overall, 7-0 PVL) notched their seventh consecutive win. Juliette James led the Falcons with 13 points, 12 rebounds and four steals while Laurlyn Massick had 12 points and four steals. and Madalyn Sigrist scored 10. The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the Lady Bruins (13-7, 5-2), who will look to bounce back Wednesday at Marysville. Bear River dropped the first matchup with the Lady Indians, but coach Jenn Krill said they played well enough to win and will be eager to even the series on the road. Colfax is scheduled to host Mira Loma on Wednesday. Del Oro 52, Granite Bay 21: The Lady Eagles (14-8, 5-3 SFL) bounced back from a down week with wins over Oak Ridge and Granite Bay. Del Oro also secured a 54-29 victory over St. Francis on Monday night to move into third place. University of San Diego signee Bella Von Seipler and Peyton Hyde have been a dynamic backcourt duo for the Lady Eagles, who will face Whitney on Wednesday in hopes of avenging a 43-31 loss on Jan. 8. Forest Lake Christian 45, Foresthill 41: In one of the top small-school games of the weekend, Foresthill traveled to Lake of the Pines to face Forest Lake Christian in a critical Central Valley California League battle. The sophomore duo of Lucy Rowley and Kenzie Harrington led the Falcons with 15 points and 12 points. Harrington notched a double-double with 10 rebounds, while Abbie Stokes grabbed eight rebounds and Jordan Bell seven. Foresthill junior Amy Saxelby led all scorers with 18 points and grabbed 19 rebounds. Kaeli Anderson scored nine points for the Lady Wildfires. Forest Lake Christian (12-7, 6-1 CVCL) faced John Adams Academy Roseville-Lincoln on Tuesday. Foresthill (12-7, 4-3) visited first-place Sacramento Waldorf.
