UC Master Gardener spring 2025 workshop schedule

UC Master Gardener of Placer County workshops teach people how to grow food sustainably and cultivate gardens to protect California's natural resources. They use UC research-based information to present fact-based workshops customized to the unique region. Join them this spring for a series of fun and informative workshops: Starting your summer vegetable garden When/where: March 8, 10:30-11:30 a.m., Loomis Library and Community Learning Center, 6050 Library Dr. Nothing says summer like growing a vegetable garden. This workshop will cover the basics of getting your garden off to a good start. Topics will include planning and layout, soil, what to plant, tips for growing from seed and more. This is an excellent workshop for beginners and experienced gardeners. All about citrus – planting to harvesting When/where: March 15, 2-3 p.m., Lincoln Library, 485 Twelve Bridges Dr. Who doesn't love citrus fruit? Placer County residents certainly do. Fifty percent of households in Placer County have at least one citrus tree. Conditions are especially conducive to growing this tasty crop. There are horticulture tips to follow to ensure success. This presentation will cover the basics of citrus growing, from planting to harvesting. Tomato mastery: The art and science of growing delicious tomatoes When/where: April 12, 10:30-11:30 a.m., Loomis Library and Community Learning Center, 6050 Library Dr. This class is dedicated to a summer favorite – the tomato. Learn about planting, growing and caring for this delicious staple and how to control problems before they happen. UC Master Gardeners will help you grow the ultimate tomato – firm, juicy and sweet. Basic Beginning Gardening 101 When/where: April 19, 10-11:30 a.m., Utility Exploration Center, 1501 Pleasant Grove Blvd., Roseville Are you brand new to gardening and don't know where to start? Learn the basics of gardening, including tools of the trade, where to plant, soil needs, sun vs. shade, irrigation needs and more. Culinary herbs make food taste fantastic, and there is no better way to spice up your garden than to add a few herbs to your planting list. In this class, learn growing techniques for traditional favorites and a few unusual herbs that are fun, fascinating plants to try on your herb gardening adventure. If you want to learn which lavender to add to your garden and what you might do when it is ready to harvest, this presentation is for you. Selecting the correct lavender, planting, water requirements and when and how to harvest will be covered. Designing Water-Wise Gardens When/where: June 21, 10-11:30 a.m., Utility Exploration Center, 1501 Pleasant Grove Blvd., Roseville Have you wondered how to create a water-wise garden? In this hands-on workshop, gardeners will learn six steps for transforming their landscape. Master Gardeners will show you what plants to consider, present inspiring visuals and offer online resources.
