Loomis finds buyer for WW Moulding building

The Town of Loomis announced a buyer was found for the vacant WW Moulding structure on Taylor Road downtown. The city-owned four-acre property is located along the north side of Taylor Road next to the tracks, extending from Shawn Drive to just past Circle Drive. The property historically was operated as W&W Moulding for lumber milling and storage, Town staff said. It is now vacant, except the unflattering frame and roof of the metal warehouse. The property underwent environmental cleanup for a diesel spill from an above-ground diesel tank in 2019. The area where the tank leaked was excavated, and clean fill was put in place and compacted. The Town tenant at the time owned the building structure. Scott Paris Enterprises bought buildings before the Town terminating the lease, Town staff said. Paris also operates the nearby High-Hand Nursery and Cafe. Paris found a buyer for the building and obtained necessary permits to remove it, Town Manager Wes Heathcock said in his Feb. 11 monthly Council report. "Staff estimates the structure will be removed sometime this spring," said Heathcock. "Yes, the structure is on the Town's property, but the owner has the right to have it removed." Due to new state law pushing affordable housing, Loomis declared the property surplus in 2022 for low-income home developers. But after housing negotiations stalled, Loomis officials took the property out of the state affordable housing pipeline last year to save it for downtown parking. Meanwhile, the Loomis Planning Commission will convene next Tuesday, Feb. 25, to review a classroom, parking and playground expansion at Sierra Foothills Academy on King Road. The Train Depot meeting is at 7 p.m.
