Reporter-turned-author to speak at Folsom Public Library

Former Sacramento Bee reporter Jennifer K. Morita will share the story of her journey from journalist to stay-at-home mom to published mystery author on Saturday, March 1, at 2 p.m. at the Folsom Public Library's Meeting Room. Morita, who worked at several Northern California newspapers, including the Paradise Post, Stockton Record and The Bee, will discuss her writing process, research and how she switched from journalism to fiction. Ghosts of Waikīkī is her first novel and has been nominated for a Left Coast Crime Lefty Award for Best Debut Mystery as well as a Malice Domestic Agatha Award for Best First Novel. Ghosts of Waikīkī follows an out-of-work journalist who reluctantly returns home to Hawaiʻi to be the ghost writer for a controversial developer, Parker Hamilton. But when the Hamilton patriarch is found dead under suspicious circumstances, Maya discovers coming home to paradise can be murder. "Folsom Public Library's local author series is one of the many ways that the library connects residents to new information, skills and to each other," said Library Director Thomas Gruneisen. "Jennifer's journey is a great example of the hidden stories that live in each of us – and the hard work it takes to bring them to life."
