Gerald "Jerry" Luthin 5/7/1937 - 2/27/2025

Gerald "Jerry" John Luthin, 87, a retired construction company president, died at his home in Loomis, CA, Feb. 27, 2025, after a long illness. A private family service will be held. Jerry is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara; his children Kathryn (Thomas) Kotynski of Great Falls, MT; Christopher Luthin of Lincoln, CA; Ted (Joanna) Luthin of Sebastopol, CA; and Melinda Luthin of Corona Del Mar, CA; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Born in Berkeley, CA, May 7, 1937, Jerry attended Berkeley High, where he played football and earned his Eagle Scout badge. He attended UCLA, where he met Barbara Homsy, his future wife. Jerry was a member of Alpha Tau Omega, majored in construction management, and later earned his MBA. During his long career in construction and management, he worked on the Seattle floating bridge, served as purchasing manager for East Bay MUD and the Port of Oakland before moving to Montana, where he worked in real estate and later for Montana Power Co. Upon returning to California, he joined Foundation Constructors where he rose to the position of president. He retired in 1999. Jerry was an avid big-game hunter and fisherman who had a special admiration for birds, His creative side included painting, lapidary, and glass art as well as collecting stamps. Jerry restored a Model A Ford, which became the family second car, and later owned a 1940 Mercury, the same car he first drove. Jerry could fix just about anything and took pride in his well-stocked and meticulously arranged workshop. He and Barbara also shared a love of RV camping and international travel. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Joann Cumero.
