Lincoln Hills Senior Softball League donates to athletic programs

The Lincoln Hills Senior Softball League donated $3,000 to support athletics at Lincoln, Twelve Bridges and Phoenix high schools. Each school received $1,000 from the LHSSL in hopes of helping boost the programs. "The founders of the league were involved in a lot of charity work and were always donating and helping others over the years," said LHSSL President Heidi Mazzola. "It's kind of fell by the wayside recently, but we've continued this particular contribution with our new tradition." The tradition? Selling hot dogs at LHSSL games. About four or five times a year, the league hosts hot dog days where it sells franks to the fans that venture out to watch their peers play. Mazzola says the league saves up all of its hot dog money for the year and donates it before the start of each season. "Sometimes, these schools struggle raising money. I know some people have had to volunteer to help them," says Mazzola. Mazzola says the members of the league enjoy giving back to the community and are happy to help promote and elevate the next generation of athletes. She added plans are already in place for this LHSSL season and they hope to have more successful hot dog days to raise money for the schools. "We have a good community for this," Mazzola said. "Our summer season kicks off April 16 and we will be selling hot dogs on Opening Day."
