Soroptimist American River holds annual awards

Soroptimist International of the American River held its annual awards dinner on April 2. Each year, Soroptimist honors women and girls in the local community with scholarships that allows them access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment. Soroptimist American River awarded 16 recipients scholarships for the following awards: Live your Dream Education and Training Award – Brianna Rollins, Bonnie Jill Kuykendall and Raven Warren. This signature award is a grant program provided to women who have made a commitment to improve their lives and the lives of their dependents through training and education. Continue Your Dream Award – Jennifer Brooks and Kaleigh Brock. Past recipients of the Live Your Dream Award who are still providing the primary financial support for their families and in need of resources to improve their education, skills and employment prospects. Violet Richardson Award – Megan Hyatt, Mikaela Balban and Claire Lesiw. This award recognizes a young woman, 14 to 18 years of age, who demonstrates leadership in volunteer action within her community or school. Women in Agriculture Award – Megan Sampson. In collaboration with Gold Country Fairgrounds, this scholarship awards a young woman pursuing a career in agriculture. Confluence High School Achievement Award – Emilee Roeder, Noell Hilty, Violet Navarro and Alexis Patterson. Under the guidance of Melany Hall, honoring passionate and resilient young women enrolled at Confluence High School who have demonstrated the determination and tenacity to overcome obstacles, carve their path to success and uplift other women along the way. Ruby Award – Stephanie Gunton. Recognizes a woman who, through her personal or professional life, works to improve the lives of women and girls. Community Service Award – Blossom Place, Shelly Bokman; Carol's Market, Tracy Zimmer. This award is for outstanding service to the community.
