Mother's Day salute: Mom, daughter are labor, delivery nurses in Roseville

Ilene Lerner and daughter Jamie Lussier are nurses, both working in labor and delivery at Kaiser Permanente Roseville. Lerner has been a Kaiser Permanente nurse for 43 years, with 41 years at Kaiser. Lussier has been a labor and delivery nurse for a decade, the last five with Kaiser. "I'm super lucky to work with my mom – same unit, same hospital, same shift, and it's so much fun," said Lussier. The daughter always wanted to be a nurse, saying, "I come from a medical background with my mom as a nurse and my dad a retired OB/GYN. I always wanted to be a nurse, but when I was in nursing school, I knew I wanted to be a labor and delivery nurse. It always intrigued me and fascinated me." Said Lerner, "It's wonderful to be a mentor for her. I enjoy it. It's fun working together, and I am so proud of Jamie. She is a wonderful nurse and gives the best care to all her patients." Kaiser Permanente Northern California has dozens of mother-daughter duos who work for Kaiser in a variety of roles, Kaiser spokesperson Chyresse Hill said. "Nursing is often a profession that runs in families," said Hill. "Some daughters follow in their mothers' footsteps, resulting in shared love and respect for this skilled and compassionate profession, with mothers serving as mentors, guiding their daughters through shared experiences."
