Eagles claim Masters golf championship

Vista del Lago's golf team keeps on performing when it matters most. A week after winning a Division II section championship, the Eagles won the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Championship. On Monday at the Reserve at Spanos Park, the Eagles won the Masters Tournament for the first time by shooting a 381, finishing two strokes in front of Jesuit. Ish Sodhi led the way by shooting a two-over par 74. Nicholas Le and Ryan O'Malley followed with 76s, while Kenny Yang came in with a 77, Hayden Sanders shot a 78 and Armaan Khan finished with an 81. On May 6, the team pulled off another major victory by winning the Division II Sac-Joaquin Section championship. The Eagles shot a team-best 359 at Bing Maloney, leading second-place Rio Americano by nine strokes. Leading the way for the team was third-place finisher Khan (70) and fourth-place finisher O'Malley (71). Following those two: Sanders and Yang shot 73s, and Le and Sato shot 79s. This is the Eagles' fourth straight Sac-Joaquin Section championship. "The team has been focused all year and determined to continue the success the program has enjoyed over the last several years," Vista coach Miguel Rodriguez said, "especially the senior class that accomplished winning four league titles and four section titles, They definitely left their mark as the best class ever at Vista. I've have enjoyed the ride we've been on together the past four seasons and I'm very proud of this senior group."
