Denio family cuts ribbon on big park in Roseville

Local dignitaries joined the extended Denio clan Saturday to officially cut the ribbon at the massive Denio Family Park on Fiddyment Road in Roseville. The 96-acre park features Roseville's first disc golf course, an 18-hole layout set among a thick grove of native oak trees. The park includes 48 acres of open space preserve, 28 acres of developed areas, including the disc course, and 20 acres undeveloped. In addition to the course, Phase 1 offers fenced off-leash dog parks with separate areas for large and small breeds, group picnic areas and permanent restrooms. "This is my favorite kind of park. This is an oasis in the middle of our city," said Roseville Parks, Recreation & Libraries Director Jill Geller. "This beautiful park has something for everyone," said Roseville Mayor Krista Bernasconi, adding that since the "soft opening" in February, Denio Park became the third most-visited disc golf course in the world, with 15,000 courses worldwide. "Congratulations to the Denio family and the city of Roseville on the dedication of the Denio Family Park," said Rocklin City Councilmember Bill Halldin. "The Denios have been a key part of Roseville for generations, operating Denio's Market for 78 years. ... Combined with Rocklin's disc golf course, it positions Placer to be the center of the sport."
